“People are better than angels…”
The Belgian multidisciplinary artist prefers being compared to Renaissance artists. As a performer, director, stage designer, choreographer, writer and visual artist, he has populated an array of prestige museums, stages and galleries around the world.
Born in Antwerp in Belgium, he graduated in Applied Arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Between 1976 and 1981, he worked mostly as a performance artist; traces of that period can be felt in his theatre work, which is strongly focused on body expression.
In the Eighties, he started directing opera, theatre and dance performances and took part in prominent international exhibitions. In the new millennium, he continues to be one of the most influential personalities in performance art.
