“We travel to the universe to look back at the Earth...”
He graduated in theatre and radio direction from the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television in Ljubljana. He has been travelling the outer edge of contemporary integrated, conceptual and interdisciplinary arts ever since his debuts. In a relatively short time he conquered the most important strongholds of art: from Documenta and Manifesta to Ars Electronica.
With strong foundations in theoretical reflection, he continues the rich tradition of modernist and avant-garde movements of the 20th century. In 1995 he founded Pact Systems, the technology arm of his Projekt Atol, and was one of the co-founders of Ljudmila. He is a coordinator of Insular Technologies, an international crypto communication initiative, co-founder of the Makrolab project and of the Arctic Perspective Initiative, director of laboratory, art-science zero-gravity flights at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre near Moscow and the MIR Consortium. He is an editor of rx:tx publishing and art director of the Projekt Atol Institute. He has been teaching at the University of California Santa Barbara since 2002 and has been appointed Co-director of the UC Institute for Research in the Arts in 2009.
